【Summary】
Conjugation of polyethylene glycols (PEGs) has been widely used to improve the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of biotherapeutics. However, there is an increasing concern regarding the presence of anti-PEG antibodies that could limit the therapeutic efficacy of such PEGylated biotherapeutics. In the next Science Café, I would like to share a recent paper showing that anti-PEG IgM in fact limits the therapeutic immunomodulatory functions of PEG–IFN-α using clinical samples of patients with chronic HBV infection before, during, and after PEG–IFN-α treatment.
