【Summary】
Human brain development is relatively slow compared with that of other species such as rodents, which has been long proposed to have a positive role in acquiring human-specific cognitive features.
On the other hand, this feature makes human PSC neuron culture a long-term, which prevents in vitro neural disease modelling.
In the next Science Café, I will introduce a report that mitochondrial metabolism influences the species-specific timing of cortical neuron maturation.
Their findings highlight the role of mitochondria in human-specific neuronal characteristics and the benefit of mitochondrial manipulations in accelerating in vitro neuronal maturation.
