This is a special Shonan iPark Science Café on June 30th that we will be co-hosting with Tonomachi LifeScience Cluster Division, based in Kawasaki City!
As you all know, Tonomachi King Skyfront is aiming to form an innovation ecosystem and become a world-class cluster focusing on life science fields such as drug discovery, drug discovery support, regenerative medicine, and medical devices.

As the first event co-hosted with our Shonan iPark Science Café, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Shingo Ueno of the Innovation Center of NanoMedicne (iCONM), Kawasaki Institute of Industrial Promotion, will give a presentation. We hope you will join us!
【発表概要】
近年、抗体やペプチドの探索技術として、ファージディスプレイに代表される結合能評価に基づいた進化分子工学技術の利用が進んでいます。しかしながら、本来評価したいのは"結合能"ではなく、酵素阻害活性等の結合に伴う"機能"のはずです。ナノ医療イノベーションセンター(iCONM)では、100万種以上の多様性を持つタンパク質ライブラリーの機能評価(触媒活性、反応阻害などの直接観察)に基づいたオンチップ分子進化スクリーニングの開発を進めています。今回のサイエンスカフェでは、iParkの皆様に本技術の紹介をさせて頂きたく存じます。本技術の用途・利用の可能性に関して忌憚のないご意見を頂けましたら幸いです。
【Summary】
In recent years, binding-based molecular selection techniques such as a phage-display have been used for screening of antibodies and functional peptides. However, we really want to directly evaluate the "function" such as enzyme inhibition, not indirect evaluation such as "binding" in the selection.
Innovation Center of NanoMedicine (iCONM) is developing an funcition-based on-chip molecular evolution system for creation of a novel functional protein. In the next Science Cafe, I will introduce this technology and would like to receive your frank opinions on the potential applications and uses of this technology.
